| Building Life Skill Portfolios
Students build a portfolio they take with them through the grades as they approach graduation
Students with cognitive disabilities need to work towards independent living by acquiring functional life skills and academic skills. Building Life Skills Portfolios provides a comprehensive curriculum that addresses life skills in five sections: functional academics, home, outdoors, recreation and health and community, country and world.
Each of the five sections contains 2-40 skill areas that vary in difficulty from 1-5. Students must complete guided Level 1 activities before moving on to guided Level 2 activities. Numerous tracking tools validate acquisition of skills as students actively participate and assemble personal portfolios. The curriculum provides a wide array of life skills for future reference as students progress through the grades. Created by teachers Lynn Henderson and Patricia Winram
