| Conversation Skills II
An extended curriculum for adolescents and adults with developmental disabilities
“These lessons have been field tested and the results have motivated fellow employees to gravitate towards the participants of this program and view them, for the first time as real friends!”
Dr. Marilyn Banks’ Conversation Skills I book set the standard as a proven method for improving social interaction within the workplace. Following Dr. Banks program, developmentally disabled young adults across United Sates and Canada have acquired the skills necessary to be accepted by co-workers within the workplace. Conversation Skills II expands upon these social skills and moves a step beyond to address the needs of the employer. Students receive pro-active training in “speaking up” and “taking initiative” while being guided toward projecting a positive image. Many participants express delight in being viewed as friends for the first time.
In support of instruction, a downloadable PDF CD template enables teachers and job coaches to monitor progress, organize data and then convert data into a user-friendly graph. Such critical information can then be shared with CSE teams and parents and included in the IEP. This organized data can then be used to further drive instruction.
Main features of Conversation Skills II include: making proper introductions, learning the full names of co-workers and friends, developing functional vocabulary and carrying on work- related and mini-conversations.
