| Social Story Readers
Teach reading comprehension and social skills using a
graphic-novel format.
Challenged readers are often “turned off” by too much text on a page. They may feel overwhelmed and even develop negative feelings towards reading. However when text is complemented with vibrant, graphic-style color illustrations that jump off the page, students are inadvertently drawn into the story and become a part of the live action.
Student Reader and Teacher’s Guide
Social Story Readers was specifically designed to engage struggling readers. The 16 graphic-style short stories focus on issues that students can easily relate to. Realistic characters coupled with action color illustrations transform special education students from “turned off” to “turned on” readers. Reproducible worksheets improve reading comprehension, vocabulary development and group interaction skills. Topics covered include: the first day of school, trying your best, overcoming shyness, controlling your temper, self-esteem, respecting others, dealing with friendships and choosing your attitude. Ideal for older students reading at a second grade level or lower.
